Burns/Novick's Vietnam War: John Negroponte "decent"? Really?

Brian Sat, 2017-09-30 18:28

There's something that's annoying the bejeezus out of me as I watch the Burns/Novick documentary on the Vietnam War. They've got these guys/gals talking at you, and all you're told about who they are, so you can judge what they're saying, is a name, and "Marines," or "Pentagon." You're not told anything about them.

Since Burns/Novick start the series by asserting that the American effort in that war was started by "decent people," it seems to me we have a right to assume they'll have decent people talking to us about it, no?

Vietnam: Got 'im! Dangerous NLF (Viet Cong) activist captured by democracy promoters (OK, OK, I admit he looks quite a bit like Ho Chi Minh!)

Reading "western" media on Syria

Brian Fri, 2016-11-18 14:54

OMG! Those damned Russians! One week they're interfering with the US presidential election, the next they're bombing hospitals and schools in Syria. Woe is us! How are we to understand such perfidy?! Herein a few pointers.

Syria "White Helmets" rescue a Syrian girl: again and again and again

WaPo from The Intercept. Say it ain't so!

Brian Sun, 2016-09-25 15:44

One of the more annoying talking points stinking up the debates around the US presidential election is this: Drumpf's son's "skittles" tweet was based on an analogy that "originated" in Nazi Germany.

It's WaPo!

Elect Jill Stein (this article is not about her, but I didn't want a photo of Trump on my site.)

Some child victims we care about, some we don't

Brian Tue, 2016-09-20 13:51

Some child victims we care about, some we don't. An injury to a child caused by someone we don't like, we beat our breasts and tear our hair out. An injury to a child caused by someone we do like, well, shit happens.

Top left, you'll undoubtedly recognize little Omran Daqneesh, injured in a "Russian or Syrian" airstrike, and nobody ever figured out, or cared, what party dropped the bomb. Little Omran was photographed by the "White Helmets," a group of PR campaigners embedded in Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian al-Qaeda affiliate. The "White Helmets" are dearly loved in the "West," are seriously funded by the "West," and have amazing contacts in the Western LameStream media. If you've managed NOT to see a photo of Omran, you'd be quite unusual. Omran, despite being alive, which makes him luckier than a lot of Syrian kids, is a victim we care about. A "worthy" victim.

Kids on the left: Poor darlings! Kids on the right: Meh.

Syrian "Revolution": Campists unite!

Brian Sat, 2016-08-27 20:20

We're duds!

Those of us who support the elected Syrian government over the foreign-supported and supplied proxy war, the fighters of which are a wahhabist, head-chopping rabble, have it all wrong. We're not anti-imperialists, we're "campists."

Syrian "revolutionaries" engage in democratic decision-making. That's right, they decided to cut the kid's head off.

Former CIA spook endorses Clinton! WaPo!

Brian Sat, 2016-08-06 16:22

(Achtung! I despise Donald Trump. Maybe even more than you. I've despised him for many, many years, since long before he decided to run for POTUS. This is not a pro-Trump piece. I discuss here what I believe to be the actual situation.)

Achcar: Left confused about Syria. Me: Oh, really?

Brian Thu, 2016-01-14 20:06

Is the "left" confused about Syria? Are we overlooking the revolutionary possibilities in the Syrian "uprising"? According to Gilbert Achcar, we are. He's just published a piece in Jacobin magazine...

"Rebel cuts out Syrian soldier's heart, eats some. Assad's fault!!

More "rebel" BS in Syria: Madaya outrage fakery

Brian Sun, 2016-01-10 11:17

By now, the "rebels" in Syria, and their enablers ... have compiled a solid record of fiction and BS. Their eagerness to smear the elected government of Syria (the "Assad regime") knows no bounds, and no untruth is spared in the effort

Starvation victim, but not from Madaya, Syria

Cologne: What more do we need to know?

Brian Fri, 2016-01-08 23:06

Here are some questions I think we should be asking ourselves about the attacks in Cologne.

Does this video explain the refugee crisis "perfectly"? Not even close.

Brian Wed, 2015-09-30 19:17

According to truthdig.com (a web-site of which I'm a big fan), this video explains the Syrian refugee crisis "perfectly."

This is perfection? Don't think so.
